How to Pick the Right Hook (Decision Note)

Use this quick chooser before writing your intro. It’s based on what’s been working in recent scripts and posts.

  1. What’s the video’s primary job?
  1. What do viewers feel right now?
  1. Can you prove it fast?

Micro‑templates (swap nouns, keep rhythm)

Editor’s note: After picking, immediately deliver on the title promise in the first 2–3 lines, then set a clear roadmap in one sentence.

HOOK FORMAT 1: Personal Connection

📄 Description

Make a personal connection to the viewer by telling them a story, or sharing a personal experience that you went through to get them to understand your perspective. Hooks like these are great for building trust with the viewer.

📋 Format to Follow

  1. Share a personal experience that the viewer can relate to (framing the video)

Start by telling a story of what happened to you. This story should connect somehow to the central problem that you’re trying to solve in the video. Be detailed, share your emotion, and be as transparent as possible. Remember: the goal is to build trust through emotion.

  2. Tell them what happened

Get clear about the outcome after. Did this catalyst lead to something else? Continue telling the story to the viewer to get them to connect.

  3. Explain how it connects to a lesson or a result

Now, relate back to the problem. What lesson did this story teach you? What do you have to learn from this? How can they apply the same lessons for themselves.

  4. Tell them what is coming up next

Tell them how the video is going to benefit them (now that you have their trust).

HOOK FORMAT 2: Storytelling

📄 Description

Tell a story about something that connects to the video. The goal of this format is to give them an idea of how a coming event will impact them, what context they might be missing, or just to share a success story that shows what is coming up.

📋 Format to Follow

Before you can write this, you need to figure out a story that connects to the video and the problem that you’re solving for the viewer. Think broad. This can be a success story, a celebrity story, a story as an example, etc.
